The Bible separates man from nature.
Wake up. Have the humility to work with nature and the world, not against. Humans are brilliant, but we shouldn’t be under the illusion that we are the masters. And remember that it is by cooperating that we have survived, even when we compete. Imagine what would happen to the world if faced with a much deadlier pandemic or an immediate climate crisis? The Coronavirus is sounding the alarm bell for the planet to wake up and cooperate. We are experiencing firsthand how interconnected we all are - one big family on the same earth. Humans have separated from nature and the world (god in the image of the human, science all knowing) - we are now faced with recognizing that the whole is bigger than us, and having to reconnect with our environment and with each other as one, as part of a larger, continuous stream.
Humans have found endless ways to dance with nature, sometimes giving the impression that they lead. But, let us remember: its nature’s dance.
Are gene editing and artificial intelligence augmenting humans the path of natural evolution?
All is Biological. All is Nature: we are, the universe, all species, all technology and inventions. Even algorithms - they come from somewhere and live somewhere - in our case from our biological brains to living on our hardware and software, or any new platforms that will follow.
Nature is a protagonist in every chapter of the book of a human life.
Is the future going to be artificial and algorithms based or biological and natural? The answer is probably that it needs to be a combination of both.
Solutions to humanity’s great challenges need to be human - that means emotional, cultural, philosophical and moral, not just technical - even if technology is used to address them.
Where do we go after western modernism, beyond the all technological world we are headed towards? What is the life of humans? How do we marry humans, technology, and nature ? In both children and in older people, we see our fundamental roots in us humans: our basic physical and emotional needs.
When natural disasters occur, it is interesting that the concerns are mostly about human made structures, forgetting the damage to natural beauty which is often irreplaceable. Humans need non digital stimuli- those that come with experiencing and feeling with one's senses without electronic help.
Human experiences are still about the physical world and people, not just digital experiences.
Survival is about the physical, not the digital.
To help the planet, start with fixing humans.
Humans have worshiped and found meaning first in nature, then God and rituals, and now in technology as our ultimate mastery of the world. Where from here, when technology questions the future role of humans and who the master is ?
In 20 years assume most children will be created in vitro. How do feel about that? Your children will be healthier and more intelligent but less natural in the sense of (less) undisturbed biology
It took a long time for humans to make nature work for them - now the challenge is to not forget where we came from.
In antiquity humans and animals were combined symbolically. We are still merging, but now with machines.
We have had crises and chaos in the past, but this is the first time in human history that we may be faced with challenges which we not only have caused, but which could escape our ability to manage, like climate.
Don’t judge too fast... all humans have qualities if you make the effort to see them, and all have failings. That is our nature.
All is Biological. All is Nature: us humans, the universe, all species, and all technology and inventions. Even algorithms come from somewhere and live somewhere. In our case, born in our biological brains to then populate our hardware and software and any new platforms that will follow.
We co-opt non-human species, like dogs, cats, horses and others for our comfort and entertainment.
Respecting nature or finding harmony with nature is needed, as opposed to going “back to nature.” Embrace new technologies and the artificial as long as accorded with nature and with humanity. The “artificial” comes from nature, is dynamic, and can ultimately help us better rekindle our relationship with nature.
Nature is the book of life.
As replicators of life, we are the link between our parents and our children. That function drives us. Practically, spiritually, and emotionally. We are the connection between maker and progeny. Our creator (parents and, symbolically, god) has an ever-lasting presence. Survivability is through our children. Those relationships are what define our lives. Will deeper symbiosis with technology change that? Not as long as we are biological.
Biological life is a mechanism for replication, inherently fostering modifications that enable change and evolution.
What is “natural?” All is. And nothing - because nothing is untouched. The artificial is altered nature. Nature is the host, always.
